Most images on the web are far bigger than they need to be. A screenshot saved as a lossless PNG, a photo straight from a phone, a logo exported at print size: each one slows a page down and eats into upload limits for no visible benefit. How It Works

Everything runs on your device. The browser decodes each file, optionally scales it down to the longest side you set, and re-encodes it. To compress PNG files the tool quantises the image to a palette, the same technique TinyPNG uses, keeping up to 256 colours at the default quality and dropping the bytes spent on shades nobody can tell apart; quality 100 keeps every colour and is lossless. To compress JPG and WebP files it uses the browser's own encoder with the quality you choose. GIF, BMP, AVIF and SVG inputs are opened and saved as PNG in “Same format” mode, or as whatever format you pick. Re-encoding drops EXIF and other hidden metadata, which is part of the saving; if you only want the metadata gone and the pixels untouched, use the image metadata remover instead.

Limits Worth Knowing

Compression is lossy below quality 100, so check the before and after view for photos with gentle gradients before going very low. Animated GIFs are compressed as a still of their first frame. If an encoder cannot beat the original, which happens with files that were already optimised, the tool keeps the original rather than hand you a bigger file. Very large images take a few seconds because the work happens on your own processor, not a server. For a WebP-only workflow, the image to WebP converter is the direct route.
